Blogging for LGBT Families Day 2009

Wow! Time flies. This time last year our foster/adopt son C was just 8 months old. Now, same time this year we find ourselves with C just over 19 months old and a new addition, his sister Z who is 8 months old. For so many LGBT individuals the thought of starting a family is innate but often hard to reach. We have had our struggles and continue to struggle with the legalities of the foster and adoption system…but are blessed with two children (Irish twins). How happy I am to have two biological siblings, two little beings who share the same DNA to be able to find that common ground when so much of their biological life was lost in adoption.

We are blessed, and while it has changed our relationship, it has changed it for the better. I never said it was easier…but better in different ways. We constantly look at each other and smile and say how much we love these two little beings. I never imagined how much I could love someone who didn't come out of me. It's insane.

Happy Blogging for LGBT Families Day everyone. I am so glad to see so many LGBT families blogging about their love for their children. I feel the love with each blog I read and I am filled with hope…that as our open minded, compassionate children grow up, the world will change.

Thank you for all you do in raising your families!
